Chipotle Orange Braised Cod

The smoky, sweet heat of HERDEZ® Traditional Chipotle Cooking Sauce combined with the bright acidity of orange juice create a fast and fabulous fish dish. Serve with cilantro rice or warm tortillas.


  • 4 (4-ounce)

    cod fillets, or any mild flavored fish

  • Salt and freshly ground pepper, to taste

  • 4 tablespoons

    olive oil, divided

  • 1

    medium yellow onion, sliced thinly

  • 1

    red bell pepper, cut into thin strips

  • 1

    yellow bell pepper, cut into thin strips

  • 1

    large clove garlic, minced

  • 1 (12-ounce) jar

    HERDEZ® Traditional Chipotle Mexican Cooking Sauce 

  • Juice of 2 oranges

  • 2

    green onions, chopped

Serves 4



  1. Rinse fish fillets and pat dry. 

  2. Season fish with salt and pepper. 

  3. Heat 2 tablespoons olive oil in large skillet over medium-high heat. 

  4. Add fish fillets to pan and sauté 2 minutes on each side or until light golden brown. 

  5. Remove fish to plate and set aside. 

  6. Add remaining 2 tablespoons olive oil to pan. 

  7. Add onions and bell peppers. 

  8. Sauté 5 minutes, stirring often.  

  9. Add garlic and cook 1 minute longer. 

  10. Add HERDEZ® Traditional Chipotle Mexican Cooking Sauce and orange juice, stir to combine. 

  11. Return fish to pan and bring sauce to a simmer. 

  12. Cover pan and cook 5 minutes or until fish is cooked through. 

  13. Garnish with chopped green onions.
