Día del Niño
In 1925, the first Día del Niño was celebrated in Mexico. This Mexican national holiday recognizes children, pays homage to their importance in society and promotes their well-being. With increased popularity, celebrations large and small have become more common in the United States. This tradition is now celebrated in Mexico and the United States every year on April 30th.
With the health of children in mind, HERDEZ® Salsa wants to bring this great celebration into every American kitchen. It is for this reason that we are sharing a few simple ideas for some tasty and nutritional snacks.
• Tortilla roll-ups with HERDEZ® Salsa, lettuce and cheese. Take whole grain tortillas, spread 1 or 2 tablespoons of HERDEZ® Salsa, sprinkle 1 tablespoon of cheese, place one large lettuce leaf on top, and roll it up for a fast, healthy and delicious snack.
• Take a small English muffin either toasted or untoasted (whole grain, if possible), spread 1 or 2 tablespoons of HERDEZ® Salsa, sprinkle 1 tablespoon of cheese on top, put in the microwave for 15 or 20 seconds and you have a Mexican pizza. Add cut up veggies on top of the salsa (before adding cheese) -- peppers, chiles, broccoli, or mushrooms are tasty options!
• Whole grain sun chips or tortilla chips with HERDEZ® Salsa and black bean dip.
• Whole wheat toast with 1 tablespoon of cheese melted, topped with HERDEZ® Salsa.
