Easy-to-Make Tamales

Celebrate the holidays with this easy, delicious and traditionally inspired recipe for tamales, featuring an extra touch of bright green tomatillo flavor from HERDEZ® Salsa Verde.


  • 1 bag

    corn husks

  • 6 cups

    corn masa mix for tamales

  • 1 cup

    corn oil

  • 2 teaspoons


  • 1 teaspoon

    baking powder

  • 6 cups

    chicken broth

  • 1.5 large

    cooked rotisserie chickens, shredded

  • 2 (7-ounce) cans

    HERDEZ® Salsa Verde

  1. Soak corn husks in warm water until soft. 

  2. With an electric mixer, blend corn masa, corn oil, salt, baking powder and chicken broth to obtain a consistent mixture.  

  3. Mix shredded chicken with HERDEZ® Salsa Verde

  4. Spread masa evenly over corn husks and spread spoonful of chicken on top of masa. 

  5. Fold sides of corn husks to center over masa so that sides overlap, forming long package. 

  6. Fold empty part of husk under so that it rests against seam side of tamale.

  7. Place tamales in tamale steamer and cook for 35-40 minutes, checking every 20 minutes. 

  8. Tamales are fully cooked when they separate easily from corn husks.
