Red Guajillo Pepper Rice

Create a side with this easy Mexican rice recipe that will complement your main entrees. Turn white or brown rice into a mouth-watering aromatic, peppery dish. It’s one of the best leftover rice recipes too!


  • 3 teaspoons

    vegetable oil

  • 1 cup

    long grain rice

  • 1 cup

    chopped onion

  • 1 cup

    chopped yellow bell pepper

  • 1 teaspoon

    chopped garlic

  • 1 (12-ounce) jar

    HERDEZ® Red Guajillo Chile Mexican Cooking Sauce 

  • 1 cup

    low sodium chicken broth

  • 1 teaspoon

    kosher salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon

    coarse black pepper

Serves 4



  1. Place medium saucepan over medium heat and add oil. When oil is hot, add rice and stir 3 minutes allowing it to coat in oil. Add onions, peppers and garlic. Continue to cook and stir 3 minutes. Add HERDEZ® Guajillo Cooking Sauce, broth, salt and pepper, stir to combine. Return to simmer; reduce heat to low and cover pan. Cook 20 minutes or until liquid is absorbed, Remove from heat and let stand 10 minutes.
