Tacos con Carne Asada

Use a secret family marinade, as shared by Angelica, to make out-of-this-world carne asada. Try these tacos with HERDEZ® Salsa Casera or HERDEZ® Salsa Verde for even more authentic flavor and spice.



  • 1/2 pound

    carne asada, thinly sliced

  • 2 cloves

    garlic, peeled and minced

  • 1/4 teaspoon


  • 1/4 teaspoon


  • 2.5 tablespoons

    garlic, peeled and minced

  • 2 tablespoons

    lime juice (fresh squeezed)

  • 1/4 cup

    orange juice (fresh squeezed)

  • 2 tablespoons

    basil leaves, roughly chopped

  • 1 tablespoon


  • 3 tablespoons

    olive oil

  • 1 cup

    medium red onion, ¼ inch diced

  • 2

    nopales (cactus leaves)

  • 1/2 bunch

    nopales (cactus leaves)

  • 5

    corn tortillas

  • 1 16 oz. jar

    HERDEZ® Salsa Casera

  • 1 16 oz. jar

    HERDEZ® Salsa Verde

  1. Place raw carne asada in large bowl and add garlic, salt, pepper, balsamic vinegar, 1 tablespoon of fresh lime juice, orange juice, basil leaves, honey, olive oil and ½ cup of red onion to meat. 

  2. Mix together completely and marinate 5 minutes. 

  3. Place marinated meat on grill over medium to high heat. 

  4. Brush marinade over meat and cook until well done. 

  5. Grill cactus on both sides over medium heat for 5 minutes on each side.  

  6. Remove meat and cactus from grill and slice into very thin pieces. 

  7. Warm tortillas on grill. 

  8. To serve, place warmed tortilla on plate and add carne asada to center of tortilla.  

  9. Place remaining red onion, cactus, cilantro, 1 tablespoon of lime juice and top with HERDEZ® salsa

  10. Serve immediately.
